Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Electrical Commissioning Technician to support the commissioning of electrical systems for a new build power generation project in the UK. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring electrical systems are safely and effectively commissioned to meet project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the commissioning of electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, motors, and protection systems.

  • Perform functional testing, insulation resistance testing, and continuity checks.

  • Support system energisation and ensure electrical circuits are properly tested before activation.

  • Collaborate with the commissioning team to ensure electrical systems are integrated seamlessly with mechanical and control systems.

  • Perform fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and resolution of electrical system issues.

  • Verify electrical equipment settings in accordance with design specifications and project documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and UK health & safety regulations.

  • Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, including test records, punch lists, and progress reports.

  • Work closely with design, construction, and client teams to ensure project success.

Qualifications and Experience
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • Proven experience in electrical commissioning, preferably in new build power generation projects in the UK.

  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, including LV and HV equipment.

  • Familiarity with UK electrical standards, such as BS 7671 (Wiring Regulations).

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Willingness to travel and work on-site as required.

Desirable Skills
  • Experience with power generation technologies such as gas turbines, steam turbines, or combined cycle power plants.

  • Competency in commissioning tools and software.

  • Knowledge of electrical protection relay settings and fault-finding techniques.
